now available to book on-line

Home is a feeling workshop

Since you are reading these words, you, someone close to you or those you care for probably suffer from dementia in some form. Researchers, conference speakers and science give us many names for the forms of dementia and causes.

It is important to know this information, however, whatever the form or cause, from the carer perspective I know what really matters in the everyday “now” is the quality of life and how to effectively communicate with empathy.

For the past 15 years I have worked with people in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease, mainly in Great Britain. They were residents of both prestigious (Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution) 24-hour nursing homes as well as clients of a private company (The Good Care Group-rated outstanding by the CQC) offering 24-hour care in patients' homes.

  • I would now like to share my professional experiences with you

  • I would like to pass on my knowledge and popularize the "Home is a feeling" method in the UK and Poland

An effective way of communicating with people living with dementia exists and I would like every dementia carer to be aware of it.

I want to pass on my knowledge based on my practice.

Specialized communication in dementia improves the quality of life not only of the affected person, but, of the whole family. I know what I am talking about, because my life has also changed since I applied a new approach to people living with Alzheimer's disease.

After many years of wandering and feeling lost, I finally arrived ‘Home’ as a person. I have learned the importance of taking care of myself and my work with people living with dementia became both my fascination and passion.

During this series of workshops, you will learn a better and more effective method of communication. You will improve your interpersonal skills in this context and learn how to better as take care of yourself and your own needs at the same time.

Each workshop has a different theme for the practical exercises.

In the first workshop I will cover :

  • The theory : My 15-year Journey with dementia

  • SPECAL theory enriched by my 9 years of personal practice

  • Conversation without asking questions and mirroring techniques

  • Dementia as a disability

  • How the world looks from the point of view of the sufferer and how to communicate in a positive way

  • Tools that will instantly improve your relationships daily

  • How to improve a person's wellbeing without the use of medicines, enabling the opportunity to slow down the disease's progression

We will practice :

  • Working in pairs we will practice conversation without asking questions-basic tool for good communication with dementia

Over the course of the 4 workshops, I will cover :

  • My experiences in the period when I did not know how the brain affected by Alzheimer’s works

  • How the breakthrough in my work and life took place

  • Share with you knowledge of what the world of dementia looks like from the patient's side

  • Explain various techniques and approaches

  • Explain why I use the SPECAL method when working with people living with dementia

  • Present exactly what my work method is and how it changes communication
